Volleyball Outlasts Iona, 3-2

UConn won games one, three and five by the scores of 30-28, 30-23 and 15-8, while Iona took games two and four by the scores of 30-24 and 30-28.
The Huskies’ offense was led by junior tri-captain Megan Crawley (Georgetown, Texas) with 17 kills. Senior tri-captain Jamie Hadenfeldt (Benicia, Calif.) chipped in with 14 kills and 12 digs, while junior Heather Ashley (Smithsburg, Md.) and sophomore Kaity Craig (Terryville, Conn.) added 14 kills and 11 kills, respectively. Junior setter Jenny Neelands (Gainesville, Fla.) aided the UConn attack with 57 assists while helping out on defense with a team-best 14 digs. Freshman Julie Pickard (Hillsborough, N.C.) posted 12 digs and classmate Brittany Stewart (Dolton, Ill.) totaled 11 digs.
Miki Hogg had a match-best 21 kills to lead Iona, while Chelsea White had 11 kills and 26 digs. Megan Dailey and Emily Mansur each tallied 10 kills and 16 digs with Mansur also contributing 47 assists.
Connecticut returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 19, when the team travels to Rhode Island for a 7:00 p.m. match.
