Huskies Sweep Blue Devil Invitational; Place First of Nine Teams

NEW BRITAIN, CT (Sept. 6) - The University of Connecticut women’s cross country team swept all three top spots and placed six runners in the top eight on their way to the team championship at the Central Connecticut State Cross Country Invitational at Stanley Quarter Park. The Huskies received just 19 points to take first among the nine-team field, while the next closest competitor Syracuse followed well behind with 76 points.
UConn junior Kristen Meyer (Hillsborough, NJ) led the way for all runners, finishing with the top individual time of 18:02.0. She was followed by two Huskies in second and third place. Senior Allison McCabe (Reading, MA) was the runner-up with a time of 18:28.2 followed by freshman Kyle MacQueen (Woodstock, CT) making an impressive debut for UConn with a time of 18:32.6.
The three were closely followed by three other teammates who took sixth, seventh, and eighth place. Freshman Jillian Sullivan (Bristol, CT) took sixth, while Niamh Cunningham (Branford, CT) and Julie LaFranco (Loudonville, NY) took the next two spots, respectively. Also scoring points for the Huskies and finishing in 21st was senior Kiley Margolis (Trumbull, CT).
