Huskies Take First at URI Invitational

KINGSTON, RI (February 8) - Behind 11 first-place finishes, the University of Connecticut women’s track and field team took first place of seven teams at the URI invitational on Saturday, finishing with 192.5 points.
Antonia Cadore (North York, Ontario) took first place in the first event of the afternoon, finishing the 55 meter dash in a time of 7.20 seconds. In the 200 meter, Sharmaine Abrams (Manchester, CT) led the pack, followed closely by Cadore, who came in second. Kristen Meyer (Hillsborough, NJ) led the mile run, as April Garner (Temple Hills, MD) finished first for 10 points in the 55 meter hurdles. The two relay teams grabbed top finishes in the 4x400 and distance medley.
Deirdre Mullen (Princeton, NJ) led the high jump before Kafi Davis (Norwich, CT) finished on top in the long jump. Andrea Gourdine (Penfield, NY) led the triple jump with a distance of 12.14 meters. Amy Parkosewich (Bethlehem, CT) finished up the day with two first-place finishes, leading the throwers in the shot put and weight throw.
