UConn Men's Swimming and Diving Falls To Rutgers

STORRS, CT (Nov. 8) - The Rutgers University swimming and diving teams swept a pair of meets from the University of Connecticut on Saturday afternoon as the men’s team took a 160-137 win over the Huskies and the women’s team beat UConn by a 163-134 count. The UConn men’s team drops to 4-1 on the season while the women are 3-2.
In the women’s meet, Jacquelyn Kraft was a double winner for the Huskies as she won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:04.83 and the 200-yard breast in 2:23.15. UConn’s other individual event winners were: Lindsay Hansen (10:23.17 in the 1,000-yard freestyle), Cassie Novak (a UConn season-best 1:52.75 in the 200-yard freestyle) and Ryan Smith (2:07.47 in the 200-yard IM). The UConn 400-yard freestyle relay team also won its event.
The men’s meet saw UConn’s Dustin Rogers win a pair of events – the 100-yard freestyle in 45.9 seconds and the 100-yard butterfly in 50.0 seconds. Other winners for UConn were Joe Cramer in the 500-yard freestyle (4:40.40) and Tristan Jones in the 200-yard IM (1:55.64). UConn’s 200-yard medley and 400-yard freestyle relay teams were also victorious.
Other impressive swims for the men’s team, all BIG EAST “A” qualifiers, included Rogers posting a time of 1:41.83 in the 200 freestyle, Tristan Jones swimming a 2:08.69 in the 200 breaststroke, and Bobby Folan posting a 1:52.59 in the 200 backstroke.
UConn returns to action when the teams travel to Boston University next Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. meet.
