Mercuri and Rzepecki Victorious in Doubles at Quinnipiac Invitational

HAMDEN, CT (Oct. 20) - The pair of Joe Mercuri (Wallingford, CT) and George Rzepecki (Farmington, CT) defeated four sets of opponents to become the champions of the "B" flight doubles at the Quinnipiac Invitational this past weekend. Four other members of the University of Connecticut men’s tennis team also competed at the event.
Rzepecki also had a strong finish in singles play, advancing to the quarterfinals of the "C" singles before falling to Scott Salway of Quinnipiac by a score of 6-4, 6-4. Advancing to the semifinals in doubles was the pair of August Vorvis (Southport, CT) and Sam Sutherland (Tampa, FL) who defeated two sets of opponents in the "A" doubles flight before falling to their opponents from Quinnipiac by a score of 8-2.
