UConn Men Down Syracuse

SYRACUSE, NY (January 25, 2003) – The University of Connecticut men’s and women’s swimming & diving team swept Syracuse at Ted Webster Pool. The men’s 140-101 victory and the women's 132-111 win, marked the first time in the history of the program that both teams won at Syracuse.
With the wins, the men’s team moved to 5-2 overall and 3-2 in the BIG EAST, while the women’s team moved to 5-2 overall and 3-2 in the BIG EAST. Syracuse fell to 4-3 overall on the men's side and 6-1 overall on the women’s side.
The men and women propelled themselves to victory by taking first place on the men's side in ten different events and in eight events on the women's side.
Juniors Dustin Rogers (West Allis, WI) and Chase Dunlap (Canadaigua, NY) and sophomore Bobby Folan (Canberra, Australia) led the men’s team with five individual first-place finishes. Rogers won the 200 and 500 freestyle events and was part of the winning 400 freestyle relay team. Dunlap won both the one and three meter diving events, while Folan won the 200 backstroke and finished third in the 200 IM.
On the women’s side, senior Kate Larson (Sayville, NY) and juniors Melissa Kull (Poughkeepsie, NY) and Lindsay Hansen (Clearwater, FL) helped UConn to the victory. Larson won the 200 IM, the 200 breaststroke and was a member of the second place 400 medley relay. Kull won both the one and three meter diving events and Hansen won the 500 and 1000 freestyles, along with the 200 butterfly.
The swimming & diving team returns to action at 1 p.m. next Saturday for Senior day when it hosts BIG EAST opponent West Virginia at Wolff-Zackin Natatorium.
