UConn Wins First BIG EAST Match, 3-0

SYRACUSE, NY (Sept. 29) - The University of Connecticut (5-8, 1-1) women’s volleyball team won its first BIG EAST conference match Sun., Sept. 29, at Syracuse (10-6,0-2), 3-0 (30-22, 30-27, 30-26) to move to 1-1 in the conference.
The Huskies came out strong once again and took care of the Orangewomen early. The Huskies hit .333 and .306 in games one and two respectively. In game three the Huskies slipped a little but still managed to out hit Syracuse and secure the 3-0, victory.
UConn was led by sophomore Jamie Hadenfeldt (Benicia, CA) who just missed her fifth double-double of the season. Hadenfeldt recorded 12 kills on an outstanding .400 hitting percentage, along with 9 digs. Seniors Melissa Wooley (Ridgecrest, CA), Christine Lambert (Lancaster, CA) and Sarah Walton (North Fork, CA) also played well for the Huskies. Lambert and Wooley recorded 12 and 11 kills respectively, while Walton had a team high 10 digs. Junior Julie Erbez set the game for UConn with 37 assists.
Syracuse was led by Morgan Jones with 11 kills and 2 digs.
Connecticut returns to action on Tues., Oct. 1, at 7:00 pm, as they play at New Hampshire in non-conference action.
