Connecticut Drops Pair of Matches at UConn Invitational

STORRS, CT (Sept. 21) - The University of Connecticut (4-7) women’s volleyball team lost a pair of matches at the UConn Invitational on Saturday.
The Huskies lost the first match of the day, 3-0 (30-22, 30-20, 30-26), to UW-Green Bay (5-8). Connecticut never got a rhythm offensively and struggled hitting throughout the match.
UConn was led by senior Christine Lambert (Lancaster, CA) who continued her good play from yesterday, with a team high 14 kills on an outstanding .481 hitting percentage. Junior Julie Erbez (Stockton, CA) had her second consecutive double-double with 33 assists and 15 digs.
The Phoenix were led by all-tournament team selection Janelle Tomlinson who recorded 14 kills on a .306 hitting percentage along with 13 digs.
The second match of the day saw the Connecticut volleyball team fall to Ohio (10-2), 3-0 (30-26, 30-20, 30-24). UConn once again could not get going offensively and struggled putting the ball away.
The Huskies were led in the second match by Erbez who recorded her third consecutive double-double with 31 assists along with 10 digs. Lambert played well again and was the only UConn player selected to the all-tournament team.
The Bobcats were led by Lindsay Judice who had 11 kills and Laura Hageman with eight kills and six service aces. Both Judice and Hageman were named to the all-tournament team.
In other action at the 2002 UConn Invitational, tournament champion Rhode Island defeated Ohio, 3-2 and UW-Green Bay, 3-1.
UConn returns to action Fri., Sept. 27, at 7:00 pm, when they open up BIG EAST play at Notre Dame.
