UConn Drops Hard Fought Match, 3-2

STORRS, CT (Sept. 20) - The University of Connecticut (4-5) women’s volleyball team dropped a hard fought match to Rhode Island(2-5), 3-2 (33-31, 30-25, 24-30, 22-30, 16-14) at the opening night of the UConn Invitational.
UConn struggled offensively the first two games, but awoke and hit an outstanding .359 and .368 percentage in games three and four respectively. The Huskies fell behind early in the decisive game five, but fought back midway through to fall just short, 16-14.
The Huskies were led by senior Christine Lambert (Lancaster, CA) who recorded her first double-double of the year with 15 kills on a .406 hitting percentage and 10 blocks. Senior Melissa Wooley (Ridgecrest, CA), junior Julie Erbez (Stockton, CA) and sophomore Jamie Hadenfeldt (Benicia, CA) also recorded double-doubles for Connecticut. Wooley recorded a team high 20 kills and 12 digs, while Erbez had a team high 53 assists and 14 digs. Hadenfeldt earned her double-double with 12 kills and 17 digs.
The Rams were led by Kaleena Miller who was one of four Rhode Island players to record double-doubles. Miller had a team high 26 kills and 17 digs, while Juliana Valencia distributed a match high 62 assists and 16 digs.
UConn returns to action tomorrow, Sat., Sept. 21, at 2:30 and 7:30 pm against UW-Green Bay and Ohio at the Connecticut Invitational in Harry A.Gampel Pavilion.
