FORT COLLINS, CO (Aug. 31) - The University of Connecticut women’s volleyball team lost its first match of the season, 3-0, to No. 22 Kansas State, on day two of the Colorado State University Park Holiday Inn Classic.
The Wildcats dominated the Huskies in the match with an impressive hitting percentage of .320. UConn did receive good performances though from junior setter Julie Erbez (Stockton, CA) who recorded her first double-double of the year with 34 assists and 13 digs, while senior Melissa Wooley (Ridgecrest, CA) led Connecticut with 14 kills. Wooley is now six kills away from becoming the seventh player in UConn history to record 1,000 career kills.
Kansas State was led by Cari Jensen, who had 14 kills on a .367 hitting percentage, and Gabby Guerre, who led the team with 38 assists.
UConn returns to action later tonight against No. 18 Colorado State at 9 pm, to close out the University Park Holiday Inn Classic.
