Mullen Places 12th At NCAA Championship

BATON ROUGE, LA (May 30, 2002) -- Sophomore Deirdre Mullen (Princeton, NJ) of the University of Connecticut women’s track and field team placed 12th in the high jump Thursday evening at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship at Louisiana State University.
Mullen recorded an effort of 1.75 meters (5’8 3/4”) in the high jump to place 12th in the field of 22. Her performance concludes a stellar outdoor season in which she registered seven victories, including the BIG EAST high jump crown. Mullen also had a strong indoor season, in which she placed fifth at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship to garner her first All-America honor.
Darnesha Griffith of UCLA won the NCAA high jump title with an effort of 1.83 meters (6'0").
Mullen qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship by virtue of a leap of 1.81 meters (5’11 1/4”) at the New England Championship. She was the only UConn women’s track and field athlete to qualify for the NCAA Championship. Her performance concludes the 2002 season for the Huskies.
