Deskis Puts Huskies On Board At ECAC Championship

PRINCETON, NJ (May 18, 2002) -- In a day primarily with preliminary action, junior Lisa Deskis (Broad Brook, CT) put the University of Connecticut women’s track and field team on the board at the ECAC Championship with a sixth-place showing in the javelin throw. Through nine events, the Huskies are tied for 27th-place.
Deskis, the school record holder in the javelin throw, recorded an effort of 141’9” to garner UConn’s only points of the day. Other Huskies in finals action on Saturday included junior Amy Parkosewich (Bethlehem, CT) in the hammer throw (13th-place) and junior Kafi Davis (Norwich, CT) in the long jump (14th-place). Parkosewich also competed in the discus throw on Friday.
In preliminary action, the 4x100-meter relay team advanced to Sunday’s finals.
Other Huskies who will be in action on Sunday include sophomore All-American Deirdre Mullen (Princeton, NJ) and Deskis in the high jump and junior Andrea Gourdine (Penfield, NY) in the triple jump. Junior Tali Griner (Kiriat Mzkin, Israel) will also be competing in the pole vault, which was postponed on Saturday.
