Several Huskies In Action At Yale Springtime Invitational

NEW HAVEN, CT (April 28, 2002) – Several members of the University of Connecticut women’s track and field team were in action at the Yale Springtime Invitational Sunday afternoon in New Haven. A victory by Nichole Tremblay (Warwick, RI) in the 1500-meter run headlined the list of Husky performances.
Tremblay ran a personal-best 4:39.91 to claim her first victory of the outdoor season in the 1500m. Also notching a high finish in a distance event was junior Kelly Joy (Montpelier, VT), who placed third in the 3000-meter steeplechase with 11:30.77.
Other UConn competitors at Yale included sophomore Gizele Richards (Canton, MA) in the triple jump, sophomore Donalda Boiteux (West Haven, CT) in the 200-meter dash and junior Michelle Carter (Danbury, CT) in the 400-meter dash. Richards leapt 10.77 meters (35’4”) in the triple jump while Boiteux and Carter both placed in the top three in their respective events, with Carter claiming a victory in the 400-meter dash.
The UConn women’s track and field team will be competing this upcoming weekend at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championship. UConn will be hosting the meet at the George J. Sherman Family-Sports Complex on May 3-5.
