Huskies in Action at Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, PA (April 25, 2002) -- The University of Connecticut women’s track and field team had several athletes competing at the 108th edition of the prestigious Penn Relays on Thursday. Headlining the group were freshman Kristen Meyer (Hillsborough, NJ) in the 3,000m steeplechase and the distance medley relay team.
Meyer, competing in her first Penn Relays, ran to a 14th-place finish in the 3,000m steeplechase championship. Meyer posted a time of 11:24.51, a new collegiate personal best.
The distance medley relay team was also in action in the Championship of America. The squad of sophomore Allison McCabe (Reading, MA), junior Antonia Cadore (St. John’s, Grenada), sophomore Nicola Hines (Bridgeport, CT) and sophomore Sarah Casilli (Jamaica Plain, MA) ran to a 13th-place finish with a time of 12:18.10.
UConn ran one other relay team in Thursday action. The 4x400-meter relay team placed fourth in its heat with a time of 3:51.60, good for a tie for the 34th fastest 4x400-meter relay on the day.
Other Connecticut athletes in action on Thursday included sophomore Deirdre Mullen (Princeton, NJ) and junior Amy Parkosewich (Bethlehem, CT). Mullen no heighted in the high jump championship while Parkosewich recorded no marks in the discus or hammer throw.
The UConn women’s track and field team returns to action this Sunday, April 28th, at the Yale Springtime Invitational before beginning its championship portion of the outdoor season next weekend at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championship, hosted by UConn.
