UConn In Action at Blue Devil Invitational

NEW BRITAIN, CT -- Competing at the Blue Devil Invitational at Central Connecticut State University, several members of the University of Connecticut women’s track and field team turned in noteworthy performances on Saturday. No team scores were kept.
Leading the way for the Huskies was senior Wadudah Nurul-Islam (Providence, RI), who posted victories in the hammer throw and the shot put. Nurul-Islam was followed in the hammer throw by junior Amy Parkosewich (Bethlehem, CT), who took second-place in the event and also won the discus throw.
Nurul-Islam and Parkosewich were one of four 1-2 finishes for the Huskies on the day. Sophomore Deirdre Mullen (Princeton, NJ), junior Lisa Deskis (Broad Brook, CT) and freshman Amy Wisehart (Salem, CT) went 1-2-3 in the high jump while sophomore Sarah Casilli (Jamaica Plain, MA) and senior Nichole Tremblay (Warwick, RI) finished 1-2 in the 1,500-meter run. Rounding out the list of Husky 1-2 finishers, freshman Kristen Meyer (Hillsborough, NJ) and junior Kelly Joy (Montpelier, VT) claimed first and second-place in the 3,000-meter run.
Other victories for UConn included junior Amanda Crichlow (Brooklyn, NY) in the 400-meter hurdles, sophomore Tali Griner (Kiriat Mzkin, Israel), freshman April Garner (Temple Hills, MD) in the 100-meter hurdles and Deskis in the javelin.
Freshman Caitlyn Brady (Englewood, CO) took second in the triple jump while junior Antonia Cadore (St. John’s, Grenada) was second in the 100-meter dash. Sophomore Nicola Hines (Bridgeport, CT) and junior Andrea Gourdine (Penfield, NY) also captured second-place performances in the 800-meter run and long jump, respectively.
UConn returns to action this Friday, April 19, in a home meet at the George J. Sherman Family-Sports Complex against Brown, UMass, SCSU and Rhode Island.
