Huskies compete at FIU Invitational

MIAMI (March 23) -- In the first outdoor meet of the season, the University of Connecticut women’s track and field team had several good finishes on Saturday at the Florida International Collegiate Invitational.
Sophomore Deirdre Mullen (Princeton, NJ) and junior Amy Parkosewich (Bethlehem, CT) each recorded first-place finishes. Mullen won the high jump with a leap of 1.78 meters (5’10") while Parkosewich took first in the discus throw with a distance of 48.04 meters (157’ 7").
Sophomore Sarah Casilli (Jamaica Plain, MA) and senior Wadudah Nurul-Islam (Providence, RI) each recorded a third-place finish on the day, Casilli in the 1,500 meter run (4:41.23) and Nurul-Islam in the hammer throw (49.32 meters, 161’ 10"). Junior Andrea Gourdine (Penfield, NY) also placed third in the triple jump with a distance of 11.67 meters (38’ 3.5").
The Huskies will be back in action at the Raleigh Relays on March 29-30 at North Carolina State University.
