Men Finish Third and Women Fourth at Pittsburgh Invitational

PITTSBURGH, PA - The University of Connecticut men finished third , while the women finished fourth at the three day Pittsburgh Invitational. Winning the invitational on the men's side was Pittsburgh and on the women's side Texas A&M took home the team title.
On the men's side UConn had numerous BIG EAST qualifying times. Freshman Mike McNulty qualified in the 100 and 200 backstroke, along with the 400 IM. McNulty finished fourth in both backstrokes with a 100 time of 51.67 and 200 time of 1:51.10, while in the IM he finished fifth with a time of 4:04.60. Senior Marshal Livingstone qualified in the 50, 100 and 200 freestyles. Livingstone finished the 50 in third at 21.10, the 100 in seventh at 46.12 and the 200 in fourth at 1:40.55. Dustin Rogers and Bill Monaghan also had third place finishes in the 100 and 200 butterfly, respectively. Rogers finished the 100 fly in 49.61 , while Monaghan finished at 1:52.40 in the 200 fly. The Huskies also finished in the top five in both the 800 and 400 free relay events.
On the women's side the Huskies were successful as well qualifying swimmers for the BIG EAST Championship. Senior Melissa Kull was outstanding on the diving boards with two first place finishes on the 1 and 3 meter dives. She won the 1 meter with a score of 258.90 and the 3 meter with 438.35. In the pool senior Kate Larson took home the championship in the 200 breast and finished fourth in the 100 breast. Larson finished the 200 in a winning time of 2:19.74 and the 100 in a time of 1:06.16. Cathleen Novak qualified in both the 200 (1:52.52) and 500 (5:00.97) freestyles with fourth and sixth place finishes, respectively. Lindsay Hansen swam well in the 500 free (5:03.01),1650 free (17:02.06) and 100 fly (57.62). Hansen finished seventh in the 500 free, fourth in the 1650 free and seventh in the 100 fly. UConn was also successful in the relays finishing in the top five in the 200, 400 and 800 freestyle relays. The Huskies finish fourth in the 200, second in the 800 and fifth in the 400.
The Connecticut swimming and diving teams return to action on Dec. 5-7 at the U.S. Open in Minneapolis, MN.
