Husky Men Win First-Ever Over Syracuse

STORRS, CT (January 26, 2002) – In front of a group of recruits, the University of Connecticut men’s and women’s swimming & diving team swept Syracuse on Senior Day in the Wolff-Zackin Natotorium. The men’s 162-75 victory marked the first time in the history of the program that the men’s team has beaten Syracuse. The women stretched their win streak to three with a 138.50-100.50 win on their side.
With the wins, the men’s team moved to 6-4 overall and 4-4 in the BIG EAST, while the women’s team moved to 6-3 overall and 4-3 in the BIG EAST. Syracuse fell to 2-5 overall and 0-3 in the BIG EAST on the men’s side and 4-3 overall and 1-2 in the BIG EAST on the women’s side.
The men and women propelled themselves to victory by taking first place on both sides in eight different events, including both diving events and every freestyle event.
Sophomore Dustin Rogers (West Allis, WI) and junior Marshal Livingstone (Endwell, NY) led the men’s team with two individual first-place finishes a piece and were both members of the 400 yard free relay team, which took first.
On the women’s side, junior diver Melissa Kull (Poughkeepsie, NY) continued her dominance on the boards with her 11th and 12th first-place finishes of the season. Freshman Kydani Dover (Jamaica Plain, MA) also pulled in two individual first-place finishes and was on the first-place 400 yard free relay team.
The swimming & diving team returns to action at 1 p.m. next Saturday as it travels to Morgantown, WV, to take on BIG EAST foe West Virginia.
