Huskies rebound with 5-1 win over St. Peter's

STORRS, CT – A pair of goals from Damani Ralph (Meridian, MS) highlighted the offensive outburst, as the University of Connecticut men’s soccer team defeated St. Peter’s College 5-1 Tuesday night at Morrone Stadium. Ralph also added an assist as the Huskies picked up their first win of the season to improve their record to 1-1-1. St. Peter’s fell to 0-2-0 with the loss.
UConn’s Sam Forko (Houston, TX) started the scoring with a header off an Anthony Curtis (Kingston, Jamaica) corner kick at the 41:44 mark. Two minutes later, Jose Sura (Brentwood, NY) added his first collegiate goal. Ralph fed the ball up field to Cesar Cuellar (New York, NY) and crossed the ball to Sura who beat the goalie for the score.
St. Peter’s Pablo Orantes stole the shutout two minutes into the second half on an assist from Alex Cuba. At the 63:42 mark, Ralph took advantage of a miscleared ball from Peacock goalie Patrick Lawlor for his first goal of the night. Two minutes later, St. Peter’s committed a foul in the UConn offensive box causing a Husky penalty kick taken by Ralph to raise the score to 4-1. Fernando Morales (Miami, FL) also scored his first collegiate goal at the 87:52 mark on an assist from Michael Mordocco (Dix Hills, NY).
UConn keeper Bryheem Hancock (Middletown, DE) recorded 3 saves in net on eight Peacock shots. Lawlor also stopped three shot on 18 Husky shots.
The Huskies return to action on Thursday, September 6 when it meets Boston University at 7:00 p.m. at Morrone Stadium. The game was originally scheduled for Wednesday, September 5.
