UConn Football Home Opener Sold Out
Limited Season Tickets Still Remain
STORRS, CONNECTICUT (August 30, 2001)—The University of Connecticut Football home opener for the 2001 season is sold out.
The UConn-Eastern Washington game, to be played Saturday, September 8 at 1 p.m. at Memorial Stadium in Storrs, will be the fourth advance sellout in the history of Connecticut Football. The Huskies sold out the first three home games of the 2000 season.
A limited number of season ticket packages still remain for the 2001 schedule and Husky fans are reminded that buying a season ticket is now the only way to see all five UConn home games if they do not have one already.
“The response to our 2001 football ticket sales has been tremendous,” said Connecticut Director of Athletics Lew Perkins. “Our season ticket base is over 7,000 and still climbing, the advance single game sales to UConn Club members and to the general public have been very strong, and we look forward to our UConn student body being out in force at the game on the 8th and every week.”
Season ticket packages for the five-game home schedule are still available for $60 (Adult/Reserved Seats) and $30 (Youth/Senior Citizens/Reserved Seats). Single game reserved tickets are priced at $14 for adults and $8 for youths/senior citizens. Season Ticket packages offer a savings of $10 off the combined single game ticket price.
The UConn Ticket Office is located on the Storrs campus in the breezeway between the Harry A. Gampel Pavilion and the Hugh S. Greer Field House. Ticket office hours are Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m. through 4:30 p.m.. The ticket office can also be reached by phone toll free from anywhere in the U.S. at 1-877-AT-UCONN or by calling 860-486-2724.
Official attendance figures for UConn’s 2001 home opener vs. Eastern Washington will not be available until the second half of the September 8th contest.
The listed capacity of Memorial Stadium is 16,200 and the all-time single-game record for attendance is 16,632, established in the 2000 season opener vs. Colgate on September 9, 2000.
After the game against Eastern Washington, UConn hosts Buffalo on September 22, Eastern Michigan on October 6, Ball State on October 27 and Utah State on November 10.
The Huskies open the 2001 season on Saturday, September 1 at No. 9 nationally-ranked Virginia Tech. The game is a noon start and will be televised locally on NESN and Madison Square Garden Network. The contest also can be heard on WTIC-AM 1080.
