Nurul-Islam Guiding Huskies At ECAC Championship
May 19, 2001
Princeton, NJ- Following the second day of the 18th ECAC Championship at William Weaver Stadium in Princeton, NJ, the University of Connecticut women’s outdoor track and field team is being led by its athletes in the field events as Wadudah Nurul- Islam (Jr., Providence, RI) has been pacing the Huskies.
Nurul-Islam has turned in a pair of top ten finishes with a runner-up performance in the hammer throw behind a 180’ 10” as she also used a 144’4” in the discus for ninth. The finish in the hammer falls into line with Nurul-Islam’s first place performance at the New England Championship a week ago, where she used a 181’ 10 and her third place showing at the BIG EAST Championship to start of the month of May with a 179’ 5” effort.
Also cracking into the top ten in her event was Kelly Joy (So., N. Montpelier, VT) who clocked an 11:08.49 in the 3000m steeplechase for 10th. Joy’s time bettered that of her previous best of 11:21.81 at the BIG EAST Championship where she finished eighth.
The ECAC Championship wraps up on Sunday with events getting underway at 11 a.m.
