Hart Competes for USA Bobsled Team

PARK CITY, UTAH (Dec. 20, 2001) -- Former UConn women's track and field All-American Bethany Hart will be competing at the Verizon Championship Series in women's bobsled Dec. 21-22 in Park City, Utah. The Verizon competition, along with World Cup rankings, will determine the athletes that will comprise the United States's women's bobsled team in the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City, Utah.
A two-time All-America selection in the hammer throw at UConn, Hart is a brakesmen for the USA National Bobsled team. She recently joined forces with Bonny Warner to finish seventh at the World Cup Finale in Calgary, Canada, on Dec. 16. Warner is currently ranked fifth in the world. Also ranked in the World Cup top ten for the United States are Jean Racine (third) and Jill Bakken (seventh).
The three teams are competing for two slots on the USA Olympic Team. A maximum of two sleds and five individuals may participate from each country at the games.
The 2002 Winter Olympics marks the first year of competition in the women's bobsled event.
