STORRS, CT – University of Connecticut swimmer Cassie Novak (Chesire, CT) was named the ECAC Women’s Swimmer of the Week, as announced Wednesday by the conference.
Novak led the UConn swimming and diving squad to a second-place finish last weekend at the Notre Dame Invitational. The freshman captured first place honors in the 500-yard freestyle, the 200-yard freestyle and the 200-yard backstroke. In addition, she was a member of the winning 800-yard freestyle relay team.
With a time of 2:00.58 in the 200-yard back, Novak met the NCAA ‘B’ qualifying mark as well as the senior national cut. That time was also good enough to set a UConn record for the event. Through seven meets on the season, she has tallied 12 first-place individual finishes and contributed to five first-place relay finishes.
Both the men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will travel to Hawaii for their annual winter training trip during the month of January. Their next scheduled meet will be on January 26 against BIG EAST foe Syracuse at the Wolff-Zackin Natatorium on the UConn campus.
