PROVIDENCE, RI (November 5) – University of Connecticut men’s soccer team members seniors Bryheem Hancock (Middletown, DE) and Chris Gbandi (Houston, TX) were named to the BIG EAST Weekly Awards teams by the conference office on Monday afternoon.
Hancock was named the BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week. He earned his seventh and eighth shutouts of the season in wins over Providence College (1-0) and Rutgers (1-0), respectively. He was not forced to make a save against Providence and had two in preserving his fourth consecutive shutout against Rutgers.
Gbandi was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week. He notched the game-winner, his second in three goals, against Providence College in the 87th-minute of play. Mainly a defender, Gbandi has moved to the defensive midfield position since the Yale game.
Connecticut will host St. John’s University on Tuesday, November 6 at 4:00 pm at Morrone Stadium in Storrs. The game was rescheduled from September 15, after the nationally tragedy forced the postponement.
