STORRS, CT (Nov. 14, 2001) -- University of Connecticut volleyball head coach Kelli Myers announced Wednesday that Heather Ashley, a senior outside hitter from Smithburg, MD, has signed a letter of intent to play with the Huskies next season.
“We are very excited about Heather joining our program,” Myers said. “She is a very good athlete and is going to be an outstanding player that we really look forward to having here. She is an East Coast kid so we’re excited about that as well.”
Ashley is UConn volleyball’s first commitment for next year's freshman class. She was a member of Smithburg High School’s Maryland Class 1A state championship volleyball squad last season. With a perfect 18-0 record in 2001, the Leopards will also be competing for the state championship again this weekend against Williamsport High School.
