STORRS, CT (October 27) — The Connecticut men’s soccer team made junior Damani Ralph’s (Meridian, MS) first half goal stand against BIG EAST opponent Notre Dame, as the Huskies’ defense was able to hold on for a 1-0 win Saturday night at Morrone Stadium.
UConn, which has now beaten Notre Dame five straight times, improved to 10-3-2 overall, 5-1-0 in the BIG EAST. The Irish fell to 9-5-0 overall and 6-3-0 in the conference.
The Huskies got on the board early in the first half when senior Sam Forko (Houston, TX) fed a pass to senior David Castellanos (Philadelphia, PA) on the right side, who then fired a shot that deflected off the far post. Ralph was there to collect the rebound and put it away for his team-leading ninth goal of the season.
Connecticut’s senior Bryheem Hancock (Middletown, DE) earned his sixth shutout of the season, making six saves in net. ND’s Chris Sawyer was not forced to make a save in net as UConn had five shots on the evening.
Connecticut continues its BIG EAST schedule on October 31 when it travels to Providence, RI for a match-up with the Friars. The contest is set to begin at 2 p.m.
