Volleyball Downs Fordham, 3-1

STORRS, CT (October 24, 2001) -- Junior (Ridgecrest, CA) tallied 27 kills and 10 digs as the University of Connecticut volleyball team defeated Atlantic 10 foe Fordham, 3-1, Wednesday night at Gampel Pavilion. Connecticut improves to 15-5 this season while Fordham is 6-13.
UConn took the first game, 30-27, despite being out-hit by Fordham .222 to .185. The Huskies struggled to find their offense in the match’s first two games. After a 25-30 loss in game two, UConn was hitting only .158 in the match.
Connecticut rebounded in game three, notching a .548 attack percentage en route to the 30-15 victory. In game four, UConn rolled over the Rams with a 30-21 score to claim the 3-1 victory.
Wooley’s offense was dominant from the beginning of the match when she racked up eight kills in the first game. For the match, she hit .327. Her 27 kills were one short of tying her career-high, set earlier this season against Pittsburgh.
Freshman (Benicia, CA) added a double-double with 12 digs and a career-high 14 kills for the Huskies. Sophomore (Stockton, CA) also notched a double-double with 36 assists and 11 digs while junior (Lancaster, CA) contributed 14 kills and five blocks.
Fordham was led by Beth Crockett, who had 18 kills and a .341 hitting percentage, and Roxanne Hill, who registered 15 kills. Setter Kristyn Daly had 39 assists.
UConn returns to action Friday night in a 7:30 p.m. match with BIG EAST foe Seton Hall at Gampel Pavilion. The Huskies also host St. John’s Sunday at 1 p.m.
