STORRS, CT (October 20, 2001) -- Junior (Lancaster, CA) registered 13 kills and seven blocks as the University of Connecticut volleyball team blanked Manhattan College, 3-0, Saturday afternoon at Gampel Pavilion. Lambert also hit .458 for the Huskies, who improved to 14-5 with the win. Manhattan is now 7-13.
UConn outhit Manhattan, .268 to .114, in the first game, but the Lady Jaspers kept the game close. Connecticut escaped with the 30-26 victory and began to put the match away in the second game, registering a .302 hitting percentage to claim the 30-22 victory. Behind a team-high eight kills by Lauren Belcher, the Lady Jaspers once again kept the third set close, but UConn pulled away, 30-25, and notched its tenth sweep of the season.
Junior (Ridgecrest, CA) also tallied double-digit kills for the Huskies with 11 kills and sophomore (Marshall, MN) added nine kills with a .412 hitting percentage. Junior (North Fork, CA) had her best offensive match of the season with seven kills while also registering eight digs and three service aces. Sophomore (Stockton, CA), logging time at the setter position for most of the match, had a double-double with 32 assists and 12 digs.
The Huskies’ next match is this Wednesday, October 24, when they face Fordham in a 7:30 p.m. match at Gampel Pavilion.
