Huskies Fall Short at Virginia Tech

BLACKSBURG, VA – In their first meet of the season, the University of Connecticut men’s and women’s swimming and diving squads each fell to Virginia Tech on Saturday at War Memorial Pool. The men lost 176.5-115.5 while the women fell 169-135.
Junior Kate Larson (Sayville, NY) led the women with three first-place finishes on the day and broke two pool records. She bested the pool mark in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:04.29 and in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:19.70. Larson was also victorious in the 200 individual medley, clocking in at a time of 2:09.60.
Two other UConn swimmers captured wins during the meet. Junior Melissa Kull (Poughkeepsie, NY) won both the 1M and 3M diving events while sophomore Lindsay Hansen took the 1000 freestyle in 10:22.62.
On the men’s side, junior diver Kevin McKinney (Mt. Laurel, NJ) completed a UConn sweep in the diving events, taking both the 1M and 3M events. Sophomore diver Chase Dunlop (Canandaigua, NY) finished second to McKinney in the 1M and placed third in the 3M. Junior captain Marshal Livingstone (Endwell, NY) was the only Husky swimmer to win an event. He captured the 50 fly with a time of 21.72.
Both the Connecticut men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will be back in action on Friday, October 26 for a tri-meet at St. John’s University. The Huskies will take on the Red Storm and the Rams of Fordham University.
