WASHINGTON (October 20) — The No. 13 University of Connecticut men’s soccer team had its five-game winning streak snapped and suffered its first BIG EAST setback on Saturday in a 1-0 loss to Georgetown at Harbin Field.
The loss was UConn’s first since Sept. 23 and increased Georgetown’s lead in the all-time series to 8-6-1. The Huskies fell to 8-3-2 overall and 5-1-0 in the conference. Georgetown improved to 6-6-4 overall and 4-3-0 in the conference.
In a physical game that produced five yellow cards, the Hoyas notched the game’s only goal early in the second half. Leading scorer Nate Port took a cross to the top of the box and fired a shot past senior goalkeeper Bryheem Hancock (Middletown, DE) from 18 yards out. Midfielder Andy Sole was credited with the assist.
The Huskies’ best chance to score the equalizer came with 20 minutes to play, when junior forward Damani Ralph (Meridian, MS) controlled a ball sent from a Georgetown defender off a restart. His shot from the left-hand side of the box hit the far post and was cleared by the Hoyas’ defense.
Georgetown outshot UConn 7-6 for the game and each team had four corner kicks. Hoyas’ keeper Brian O’Hagan made two saves in his third shutout of the season while Hancock did not record a save.
The Huskies will look to bounce back against rival Yale on Wednesday, Oct. 24 in New Haven, CT. UConn leads the all-time series against Bulldogs with a 29-25-3 record.
