UConn Sweeps BIG EAST Foe West Virginia, 3-0

MORGANTOWN, WV - Behind a match-high 18 kills by junior (Ridgecrest, CA), the Connecticut volleyball team swept West Virginia, 3-0, Sunday afternoon to improve to 13-4 overall, 4-2 in the BIG EAST this season. West Virginia is now 5-12 overall, 2-5 in the BIG EAST.
UConn opened the match by rolling to a 30-20 victory in game one. The second game was tighter, with UConn ahead, 28-25, when a power outage resulted in a 70-minute stoppage of action. When play resumed, the Huskies took the final two points of the second game and claimed the third set, 30-17.
UConn hit .185 in the match while West Virginia struggled with a -.030 hitting percentage.
In her second impressive offensive display of the weekend, Wooley hit .342 against the Mountaineers after blitzing Pittsburgh for a career-high 28 kills Friday night. Sophomore (Ridgecrest, CA) added a team-high 15 digs, while junior (Linden, CA) and freshman (Benicia, CA) contributed 13 digs apiece. Junior (Lancaster, CA) had nine blocks.
For the Mountaineers, Jill Ruskowski had eight kills and Kristi King added seven kills and 15 digs.
UConn’s next match is this Wednesday, October 17, at Rhode Island. Game time is 7 p.m.
