UConn Downs Pittsburgh, 3-1, in BIG EAST Action

PITTSBURGH, PA (Oct. 12, 2001) -- Junior (Ridgecrest, CA) notched a career-high 28 kills and senior (Fairview Park, OH) added her sixth consecutive double-double as the University of Connecticut volleyball team defeated Pittsburgh, 3-1, in BIG EAST action Friday night. UConn improves to 12-4 overall, 3-2 in the BIG EAST, while Pittsburgh is now 5-9 overall, 2-4 in the BIG EAST.
Connecticut began the match by hitting .342 in the first game en route to a 30-28 victory. The Huskies cooled down to a subpar .102 hitting percentage in game two, as Pittsburgh claimed the game, 30-28. Connecticut rebounded in game three by out-hitting the Panthers .300 to .000 to notch a 30-22 victory. UConn then took the fourth game, 30-28, to seal its third conference victory.
Wooley bettered her previous career best in kills by five, blistering the Panthers for 28 kills and a .392 hitting percentage. Wooley just missed a double-double, adding nine digs in the effort. Sophomore (Stockton, CA) also just missed a career milestone; Erbez was one kill short of a trible-double with nine kills, 28 assists, and 10 digs. Erbez also notched six blocks.
Erbez logged time at the setter position with Shaker, who tallied her sixth consecutive double-double with 26 assists and 12 digs.
Carrie Norris paced the Panthers with a trible-double, registering 19 kills, 24 assists and 19 digs. Wendy Hatlestad and Lindsey Macke also added double-doubles. Hatlestad had 14 kills and 14 digs while Macke recorded 26 assists and 10 digs.
UConn returns to action in a BIG EAST contest against West Virginia in Morgantown, WV, Sunday at 2 p.m.
