The win improves the No. 20 nationally-ranked Fighting Irish to 24-5 overall, 11-0 BIG EAST. The Huskies drop to 19-12 overall, 7-4 BIG EAST. This is the third consecutive year Notre Dame has ended UConns run in conference championship play.
Despite the three set loss, four UConn players turned in impressive double-doubles. Melissa Wooley (So., OH, Ridgecrest, CA) had a career high 23 kills and 12 digs, while sister Laura Wooley (Fr., OH, Ridgecrest, CA) had 11 kills and 11 digs, after being named to the BIG EAST All-Rookie Team Friday night.
Maria Shaker (Jr., S, Fairview, OH) lent 36 assists to the Husky offensive attack and had 11 digs. Stephanie Schindel (Sr. OH, Diamond Bar, CA) buried13 kills and came up with 24 digs. Schindel, who was named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team, tabulated her 20th double-double of the season, marking her 13th in the last 14 games.
The Huskies still have more games on their agenda as they head to Waco, TX, for the Baylor Classic on Nov. 24 and 25. Connecticut is looking for its 20th victory this year, which would mark the fourth straight season to win 20-or-more games and 13th season to do so in school history. UConn will meet No. 7 UCLA on Friday, Nov. 24. The winner of that match will face either UNLV or Baylor on Saturday, Nov. 25, in the tournament championship game.
