Men's Soccer To Host BIG EAST Quarterfinal Game

STORRS, CT (Oct. 24) - The University of Connecticut men's soccer team will host one quarterfinal game of the BIG EAST Tournament in Storrs on Sunday, November 5 at 1:00 p.m.
Connecticut and St. John's are the only two BIG EAST teams assured of hosting a quarterfinal game although five other teams have qualified for postseason play. Joining Connecticut and the Red Storm in the BIG EAST tournament are Boston College, Pittsburgh, Georgetown, Rutgers and Syracuse. The final seedings and pairings will be determined by Oct. 29, the final day of regular season play.
With two more BIG EAST regular season games remaining, UConn is currently in second place in the league standings with 14 points based on a conference record of 6-1-2. St. John's is in the No. 1 spot with 17 points, having completed BIG EAST play, going 8-2-1. BIG EAST standings are based on a point system in which teams are given two points for a win, one point for a tie and zero points for a loss. In order to win the BIG EAST regular season championship outright, the Huskies need to defeat both Villanova (Oct. 25) and Rutgers (Oct. 28).
The BIG EAST Championship will be played at Rutgers' Soccer Stadium in Piscataway, NJ the weekend of November 10-12. The semifinal games will be played on Friday with the championship game slated for Sunday.
UConn hosts the Villanova Wildcats on Wednesday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. at Morrone Stadium in Storrs.
